HC Deb 04 April 1910 vol 16 cc172-3W
Mr. BURGOYNE

asked whether any portion of the deficit in the revenue on the year just concluded is due to the failure of the taxes imposed by the Budget to realise the estimated amount; and, if so, how it is proposed to meet the situation thus set up?

The HON. MEMBER

also asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any estimate has been formed of the amount proposed to be raised by the Budget of 1909–10 which remains uncollected in consequence of such Budget having been referred to the people; and whether he will state how much of the deficit, if any, will be collected should the Budget be passed by both Houses after the termination of the financial year which it was framed to cover?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I will answer these two questions together. My right hon. Friend cannot anticipate his financial statement by giving the information asked for by the hon. Member.
