Deb 26 March 1936 vol 100 c310

GOVERNMENT OF BURMA (SENATE ELECTIONS), ORDER, 1936.

Report from the India and Burma Orders Committee, That they have examined the Draft Orders as required by the Standing Orders of the House; that in their opinion the provisions of the Orders raise important questions of policy and principle which have been accepted already by the House when passing the Government of Burma Act, 1935, under which the Orders are submitted for approval; that the Orders are not founded on precedent, inasmuch as no other Orders have been submitted for the approval of Parliament under the Government of Burma Act, 1935; that in the opinion of the Committee the Orders cannot be passed by the House without special attention, but that no further inquiry is necessary before the House proceeds to a decision on the resolutions to approve the said Orders.

Read, and ordered to lie on the Table.
