HL Deb 08 September 2003 vol 652 cc8-9

2.56 p.m.

Lord Grocott

My Lords, I have two brief statements about business. First, with the leave of the House, after the three opening speeches in the debate on the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Bill, my noble friend Lady Ashton of Upholland will repeat a Statement on the children's Green Paper. Secondly, following that, with the leave of the House, my noble friend Lady Symons will repeat a Statement on Iraq and Israel/Palestine.

May I say a very few words about the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Bill timings? As the House has already heard, there will be two important Statements today. I am always mindful of the advice which I receive from all quarters of the House on trying to finish at around the advisory time of 10 o'clock. I simply say that should the Back-Bench contributions to that Bill he restricted to about eight minutes, we would finish by 10 o'clock. If they were restricted to around 10 minutes, it would be around 11 o'clock.
