HL Deb 20 January 1997 vol 577 cc385-6
The Lord Chancellor

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a second time.

The Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 established the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and National Boards for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and made provision for the administration of the three professions. The 1979 Act has been extensively amended by the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1992 which reorganised the statutory bodies and made other changes. A considerable number of more limited amendments have been made by other legislation. This Bill, which extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, consolidates the 1979 Act with all these amendments.

Moved, That the Bill be now read a second time.— (The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Bill read a second time, and referred to the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills.
