HL Deb 28 November 1996 vol 576 c382
Lord Kimball

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do now resolve itself into Committee on this Bill.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(Lord Kimball.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly.

[The CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES in the Chair.]

Clause 1 [New corporate powers for the Horserace Totalisator Board]:

Lord Kimball moved Amendment No. 1: Page 1, line 8, after ("bets") insert ("on any event").

The noble Lord said: I shall not weary the Committee because this is purely a technical amendment to make it perfectly clear that the Horserace Totalisator Board will not be able to take bets on the British National Lottery. Amendments Nos. 1 and 2 are both technical amendments to that effect. I beg to move.

The Earl of Courtown

I am most grateful to my noble friend Lord Kimball for bringing forward this Bill and tabling these amendments. I am glad of the opportunity to record that the Government fully support the Bill and the amendments.

On Question, amendment agreed to.

Lord Kimball moved Amendment No. 2: Page 1, line 9, leave out ("on any event") and insert ("except bets on the outcome of any lottery forming part of the National Lottery for the purposes of Part I of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993").

On Question, amendment agreed to.

Clause 1, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 2 agreed to.

House resumed: Bill reported with amendments.
