§ Lord RenwickMy Lords, I beg to present a petition from Berkshire County Council which prays that this House will call upon the Secretary of State for the Environment to withdraw his current proposal for the abolition of Berkshire County Council and announce that he will not be pursuing further the question of structural change in the Royal County.
The petition also prays that this House will vote down any order placed before it which seeks to implement the Secretary of State's current, flawed proposal for the reorganisation of local government in Berkshire.
