( ) in subsection (3), after the words "section 1" there shall be inserted the words "or 1A".").
§ The noble Lord said: My Lords, I beg to move Amendment No. 1. The amendment corrects a small omission from Schedule 3 to the Bill. As the House is aware, Schedule 3 extends the regime of strict liability for oil pollution damage to all ships. The accidental omission of the phrase "or 1A" would in one respect have had the effect of providing a different regime for oil tankers than for other ships.

§ Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish moved Amendment No. 2:

§ The noble Lord said: My Lords, in moving Amendment No. 2, it may be for the convenience of the House if I speak to Amendment No. 3 at the same time. The amendments make minor corrections to the table of repeals. Both amendments concern the removal of obsolete references from the Merchant Shipping (Registration, etc.) Act 1993. Amendment No. 2 would remove a redundant reference. Amendment No. 3 would correct the extent of one of the repeals. As currently drafted, that repeal would have removed a reference which should be retained. I beg to move.
