HL Deb 25 March 1993 vol 544 c437

4 Clause 27, Page 21, line 2, leave out 'wholly or mainly'.

Lord Fraser of Carmyllie

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 4.

The words which are deleted by the amendment would require every social worker who is appointed as a supervising officer to be virtually a specialist in such work. That is not always practicable, especially in less populated areas where individual social workers may be required to undertake a wider range of social work duties. The amendment therefore removes what would be an unnecessary and impractical constraint on social work authorities.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 4.—(Lord Fraser of Carmyllie.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
