Clause 6 [Sea-defence functions of Council]:

The Chairman of Committees (Lord Ampthill) moved Amendment No. 1: Page 4, line 26, at end insert ("parts of").

The noble Lord said: My Lords, perhaps I may speak also to Amendments Nos. 2 to 8. Amendment No. 1 is a drafting amendment to Clause 6. Amendments Nos. 2 to 8 are amendments to the schedule. They have the effect of saving from repeal certain enactments which the British Railways Board considers to be relevant in connection with its existing railway undertaking.

The amendments do not affect the substantive provisions of the Bill, which are intended to permit the city council of Bristol to discontinue its statutory harbour undertaking at Portishead Docks. I beg to move.

On Question, amendment agreed to.
