§ 8.16 p.m.
§ Lord Cochrane of CultsMy Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a third time.
First, I must declare an interest. I am chairman of a small company which is an authorised gas supplier in terms of Section 8 of the Gas Act 1986. Gas is incidental to our main business, being only 2 per cent. or thereabouts of our turnover.
This Bill removes unnecessary bureaucracy, a matter to which the Government attach high priority. It is capable of enhancing the living standards of those who would benefit from it when enacted, and it allows for future developments in the gas industry.
I must also thank my noble friend Lady Carnegy of Lour for her help in the workings of this House and other advice behind the scenes to ensure that I said the right thing at the right time. I must particularly thank the noble Lord, Lord Ezra, whose advice and vast experience in the energy industry has been of invaluable assistance to me in the work connected with this Bill.
Moved, That the Bill be now read a third time.— (Lord Cochrane of Cults.)
On Question, Bill read a third time, and passed, and sent to the Commons.
House adjourned at nineteen minutes past eight o'clock.
