§ 11.32 a m.
§ The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a third time. As I explained to your Lordships at Second Reading the Bill is consolidation with amendments to give effect to Law Commission recommendations. No points on the Bill have been raised by the joint committee. Perhaps I may mention that the noble Lord, Lord Northfield, who is unable to be present today, told me informally how much he appreciated the quality of the consolidation in respect of a subject in which he has a particular interest.
I need say nothing further about the Bill except to remark on the speed with which it has passed through your Lordships' House. That is another indication of the quality of the draftsmanship. I am sure that I have the support of the House in expressing appreciation for the work of the Law Commission and parliamentary counsel in preparing the consolidation.
I take this opportunity to express my thanks and I hope the thanks of the House as a whole to the members of the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills for the sterling work that it does, not much of it in the public eye but nevertheless extremely important. I commend the Bill to the House.
§ Moved, That the Bill be now read a third time.—(The Lord Chancellor.)
§ Lord MishconMy Lords, from these Benches we join in the congratulations and the appreciation.
