HL Deb 08 October 1990 vol 522 c9

3.3 p.m

Lord Denham

My Lords, it is right that I should announce formally to the House that Her Majesty the Queen will open the new Session of Parliament on Wednesday 7th November. The date of Prorogation for the present Session will be subject to the progress of business but it is expected that the House will sit into the week beginning Monday 29th October.

It may be for the convenience of the House to know that Report stage of the Environmental Protection Bill will be adjourned at about 7 p.m. for about one hour and that during the adjournment a Motion will be taken to discharge the Order of Commitment to the Landlord and Tenant (Licensed Premises) (No. 2) Bill.

Lord Hatch of Lusby

My Lords, since the Government Chief Whip is dealing with Business, may I ask him whether it is intended to hold a debate on the new environmental White Paper before the end of this Parliament or after the Queen's Speech?

Lord Denham

My Lords, it is traditional in this House that the question of what debates should take place is one for the usual channels in discussion outside the House.
