HL Deb 19 June 1990 vol 520 c731

3.10 p.m.

Baroness Nicol asked Her Majesty's Government:

What responses they have received to the consultation paper Action on Dogs issued in August 1989.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh)

My Lords, we received 334 responses to the paper from the 462 local authorities and other organisations to whom it was sent. Respondents broadly agreed with our proposals.

Baroness Nicol

My Lords, I thank the Minister for his Answer. Can he say whether, among the answers from the local authorities, there was any indication of their need for extra resources to meet the Government's requirements published last year? Are the Government aware of the need and do they intend to make any special arrangements for resourcing?

Lord Hesketh

My Lords, it will come as no surprise to the noble Baroness that in certain replies mention was made of resourcing. However, as the noble Baroness is aware, those matters are dealt with when the situation is reviewed for the SSA.
