HL Deb 25 July 1990 vol 521 c1445

2.52 p.m.

Baroness Nicol asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any recent progress has been made towards a solution of the problems preventing the introduction of legislation to protect common land.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Strathclyde)

My Lords, further progress has been made and we hope to make a Statement before the Recess.

Baroness Nicol

My Lords, before I acknowledge that Answer perhaps I may welcome the noble Lord on his first appearance with his new brief. I look forward to a long and harmonious relationship.

I thank the noble Lord for his Answer and in view of that Answer I shall not ask any supplementary questions.

Lord McIntosh of Haringey

My Lords, can the Minister give an assurance that all his answers to my noble friend or to any questions from these Benches will be as helpful as the one he has just given?

Lord Strathclyde

My Lords, of course, if the question is as helpful.
