HL Deb 11 May 1989 vol 507 c750
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

My Lords, I beg leave to withdraw the Protection of Privacy (No. 2) Bill. Perhaps by way of explanation I should say that noble Lords will be well aware that Mr. Renton announced in another place on 21st April that the Government have decided that there should be a review of the general issue of privacy and related matters and that the review is to be conducted outside government. In the light of that, and given the fact that an identical Bill to mine has been withdrawn in the House of Commons, I feel it would be churlish, time wasting and counter-productive to proceed with my Bill in this House. I trust therefore that your Lordships will give leave for the Bill to be withdrawn.

Bill, by leave, withdrawn.
