Lord Brooks of Tremorfa moved the following amendment:
Page 1, line 7, at end insert—
("( ) This Act shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the date on which it is passed.").
§ The noble Lord said: I wish to express my thanks to all noble Lords who supported me on the Second Reading of the Bill. The purpose of the amendment is simple. It was suggested to me that after the Bill receives Royal Assent some time will be necessary in order for the licensing authorities and the clubs to prepare themselves for its provisions. I beg to move.
§ Lord Dean of BeswickFrom these Benches I wish to express support for the amendment. It is a tidying-up amendment which makes sense. It makes the Bill workable by giving the time needed for people to become organised. On that basis we support the amendment.
