HL Deb 02 November 1988 vol 501 cc239-40

35 Clause 33, page 13, line 43, leave out 'other'.

36 Page 14, line 1, leave out 'a work of joint authorship' and insert 'such a work'.

Lord Strathclyde

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 35 to 36 en bloc. Clause 33 restates Section 6(6) of the 1956 Act and allows publishers to include short passages from literary and dramatic works in anthologies for education establishments, subject to certain conditions.

The first of the two amendments to Clause 33—Amendment No. 35—is a simple drafting point. The word "other" is superfluous. Amendment No. 36 will ensure that subsection (3) covers all collaborative works, whether they are strictly works of joint authorship or not.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 35 and 36 en bloc.—(Lord Strathclyde.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
