HL Deb 22 July 1988 vol 499 c1616

123 Clause 71, page 48, line 42, leave out from 'imprisonment' to 'which' in line 43 and insert 'or detention in a young offender institution'.

Earl Ferrers

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 123. Perhaps I may also speak to Amendments Nos. 126 to 131, 139 to 149, 292 to 304, 418 and 420.

The purpose of all the amendments in this large group is to improve the drafting of Part VI of the Bill. That part contains powers to freeze and confiscate the proceeds of crime. The procedures are quite complicated. It is important that the law should be clear and precise with no room for doubt about the scope and intention of those powers.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 123.—(Earl Ferrers.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
