HL Deb 19 July 1988 vol 499 c1206

7 Clause 19, page 14, line 46, after '21', insert '22'.

The Lord Chancellor

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 7. This amendment is consequential upon the introduction of a new Clause 22 at Third Reading in this House inserting the Widgery criteria on the face of the Bill in response to a request that I should do so by a number of your Lordships, including the noble and learned Lord, Lord Elwyn-Jones. At the time it was overlooked that the number should be changed and this amendment corrects that omission.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 7. (The Lord Chancellor.)

Lord Elwyn-Jones

My Lords, I thank the noble and learned Lord for making this addition and introducing the Widgery criteria on a firm and clear basis into the Bill.

The Lord Chancellor

My Lords, I am grateful to the noble and learned Lord. It is an indication that, for the most part, the elements of this Bill have been ultimately subjected to substantial agreement.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
