HL Deb 20 December 1988 vol 502 c1245
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Skelmersdale)

My Lords, I regret that during Questions yesterday I misled the House in answer to a supplementary question from the noble Lord, Lord Callaghan of Cardiff. I mistakenly asserted that unemployment was rising in 1979 when in fact unemployment continued to fall until the autumn of that year. I am very sorry that that obviously caused annoyance and confusion to the noble Lord and to all your Lordships.
