HL Deb 19 April 1988 vol 495 cc1361-2

2.59 p.m.

The Lord Advocate (Lord Cameron of Lochbroom)

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do now resolve itself into Committee (on Recommitment) on this Bill.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee (on Recommitment)—(Lord Cameron of Lochbroom.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee (on Recommitment) accordingly.

[The LORD ABERDARE in the Chair.]

Clauses 1 to 51 agreed to.

Schedule 1 agreed to.

Schedule 2 [Repeals]:

The Lord Advocate (Lord Cameron of Lochbroom) moved Amendment No. 1: Page 18, line 11, column 3, after ("14") insert ("the words").

The noble and learned Lord said: In speaking to this amendment, I shall speak also to the remaining amendments. This Bill was considered by the Joint Committee on 23rd March. Further consideration of the Bill since then has uncovered a number of printing errors or minor technical inconsistencies in Parts II and III of Schedule 2.

This amendment and Amendments Nos. 4 and 5 correct printing errors which have crept into the latest print of the Bill. The remaining amendments are aimed at making clear which of the repeal provisions are re-enacted in the Bill or are repealed without re-enactment. Therefore the amendments are minor drafting points that do not affect the scope or legal effect of the Bill.

The noble and learned Lord, Lord Oliver of Aylmerton, the chairman of the joint committee, has been consulted on the amendments and has indicated that he is of the view that those amendments are appropriate to a consolidation Bill, and further that the amendments do not change the legal effect of the Bill.

I intend to move the remaining amendments en bloc. However, if noble Lords require an explanation of any of them, I shall of course be pleased to provide it. I beg to move.

On Question, amendment agreed to.
