HL Deb 25 March 1986 vol 472 c1284

2.58 p.m.

Viscount Davidson

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Lord Gray of Contin, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a third time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read a third time.—(Viscount Davidson.)

Lord Boothby

My Lords, before your Lordships pass this Bill I should just like to say that it imposes very heavy new responsibilities upon the trustees of Peterhead Harbour. I should like to make an appeal to them to co-operate with the other ports around the North coast of Scotland in bringing a prosperity to that area greater than it has ever known before, and furthermore to carry out the undertakings that they have given and forget now any past differences, especially with Aberdeen, because I do not like to see the kind of civil war between ports in Scotland which has been going on. I believe that with genuine good will and co-operation Peterhead can discharge its special obligations as the leading fishing port in Europe and, that the whole of the North of Scotland will greatly benefit as a result.

On Question, Bill read a third time, and passed.
