HL Deb 17 March 1986 vol 472 c844

6.38 p.m.

Lord Lyell rose to move, That the draft order laid before the House on 3rd February be approved. [10th Report from the Joint Committee.]

The noble Lord said: My Lords, I beg to move that the Mental Health (Northern Ireland Consequential Amendments) Order 1986, a draft of which was laid before your Lordships' House on 3rd February this year, be approved.

A number of Acts of Parliament applying solely to Great Britain or, indeed, to the United Kingdom as a whole require to be amended as a result of the changes introduced by the Mental Health Order which we approved a few seconds ago. These amendments are of a purely consequential nature and are contained in a separate enactment because the law which is being amended falls outside Northern Ireland's legislative jurisdiction.

I hope your Lordships will accept that these amendments are indeed consequential. With that, I beg to move.

Moved, That the draft order laid before the House on 3rd February be approved.—(Lord Lyell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
