HL Deb 23 July 1986 vol 479 c205
Baroness Sharples

My Lords, on this very happy day I beg leave to ask the Question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what activities were organised during the Farming and the Countryside Week.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

My Lords, 33 events were held on farms in England which provided farmers and the general public with an opportunity to see a wide range of countryside conservation subjects being undertaken on farms.

Baroness Sharples

My Lords, I thank my noble friend for that reply. In view of the success of Farming and Countryside Week, can he say whether that experiment will be repeated in future years?

Lord Belstead

My Lords, I am grateful to my noble friend for her question. We think it was successful; more than 10,000 farmers, members of the general public, schoolchildren and general interest groups visited the 33 events that were held. We certainly should like to repeat it either in whole or in part. We must look at our budget to see whether that will be possible.
