HL Deb 22 July 1986 vol 479 cc196-7

17 Schedule 1, page 32, line 40, leave out 'is'.

18 Page 32, line 40, leave out 'incapacitated' and insert 'is unable to carry out his duties as a Board member.'.

Lord Cameron of Lochbroom

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 17 and 18 en bloc. These are essentially drafting amendments, which make it clear that a board member may be dismissed because of physical and mental illness only if that illness makes him unable to carry out his board duties. I think that this clarification, which was suggested by the Opposition in another place, is a useful one, and I would commend it to your Lordships.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said amendments.—(Lord Cameron of Lockbroom.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
