2. Staff of the House

The Committee considered further proposals from the Sub-Committee.

They agreed to the introduction of a scheme permitting limited flexible complementing at chief clerk and senior clerk levels and authorised payment of night duty allowances to certain administrative staff up to the rank of chief clerk or equivalent.

A proposed restructuring of industrial grades in the refreshment department was agreed and revised scales of pay and laundry allowances for uniformed staff were authorised.

3. Computer Developments

The Committee agreed a proposal that from the financial year 1987–88 provision for parliamentary computer services be transferred to the Votes of the two Houses.

4. Revised Scales of Pay

The Committee confirmed the application to staff of the House of Lords of the following Civil Service memoranda:—

CM/768—Revised subsistence payments towards the cost of meals and overnight expenses.

IM 86/8—Revised rate of London weighting for industrial staff.

5. Gift to Australian Commonwealth Parliament

The Committee agreed that provision be made in the House of Lords' Vote to meet a share of the costs of providing a vice-regal chair for a new Parliament building in Canberra which is to be opened in 1988 when the Australian bicentenary is celebrated.

6. Late Night Transport

The Committee agreed a revision in the conditions regulating the provision of transport to certain staff who work late after public transport has ceased to run.

7. Superannuation

The Committee were notified of the following awards made under the House of Lords Staff Pension Scheme:

  1. (a) Revised pension and lump sum to Mr. A. W. K. Chittil, re-employed doorkeeper, who finally retired on 15th November 1986.
  2. (b) Pension and lump sum to Mrs. M. E. Curd, clerical officer, who retires on 20th December 1986.
  3. (c) Pension and lump sum to Mrs. M. J. Hacking-Brian, personal secretary, who resigned on 3rd October 1986.
  4. (d) Preserved Pension and lump sum to Mr. G. F. Holborn, assistant librarian, who resigned on 31st May 1985.
  5. (e) Lump sum death benefit and short-term pension to widow of A. E. Tomlin deceased, former doorkeeper, who died on 31st October 1986.
