§ The Deputy Chairman of CommitteesMy Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Chairman of Committees I beg to move the second Motion standing in his name on the Order Paper.
Moved, That, as proposed by the Committee of Selection, the Lords following, with the Chairman of Committees, be named of the Select Committee on Broadcasting:
That the Committee have power to adjourn from place to place and to report from time to time;
- Ardwick, L.
- Aylestone, L.
- Davidson, V.
- Henderson of Brompton, L.
- Orr-Ewing, L.
- Ponsonby of Shulbrede, L.
- Stoddart of Swindon, L.
- Thomas of Swynnerton, L.
- Winstanley, L.
That two be the quorum of the Committee;
That the Committee have power to appoint Specialist Advisers;
That the Committee have leave to confer on matters relating to sound broadcasting and to meet concurrently for this purpose with any Select Committee on Sound Broadcasting appointed by the Commons for the purpose of deliberating and of examining witnesses; and have leave to agree with the Commons in the appointment of a Chairman for any such meeting.—(The Deputy Chairman of Committees.)
§ Baroness PhillipsMy Lords, I should like to draw attention to the fact that no female Lord has been appointed to any of the three Committees in respect of which Motions appear on today's Order Paper. Outside this House that would be regarded as discrimination. I am not sure how these committees are selected but I draw the attention of this House to the matter.
§ The Deputy Chairman of CommitteesMy Lords, I will certainly draw the attention of my noble friend the Chairman of Committees to the comment of the noble Baroness.
On Question, Motion agreed to.
