HL Deb 20 May 1985 vol 464 c82

27 After Clause 29, insert the following new clause:

("Expenses.

.—(1) There shall be paid out of money provided by Parliament such sums as the Attorney General may, with the consent of the Treasury, direct in respect of the expenditure incurred by the Director of Public Prosecutions in the discharge of his functions under this Act.

(2) Any expenditure incurred by the Secretary of State or the Attorney General which is attributable to this Act shall be payable out of money provided by Parliament.").

Lord Glenarthur

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their amendment. I referred to it earlier. This new clause enables any expenditure arising as a result of the Bill, once enacted, to be funded by parliamentary Vote. The insertion of such a clause is a normal development when a Bill is introduced in your Lordships' House. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said amendment.—(Lord Glenarthur.)

Lord Elwyn-Jones

My Lords, this is essentially an Attorney-General protection amendment, and I am all for protecting Attorneys-General from personal expenditure.

On Question, Motion agreed to.

Lord Glenarthur

My Lords, I beg to move that this House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 28.
