HL Deb 19 March 1985 vol 461 cc535-6
Lord Ennals

My Lords, I wish to move my Motion formally.

Moved to resolve, That this House, while accepting the need for further savings in the NHS drugs bill, deplores the decision of Her Majesty's Government to deny to general practitioners the right to prescribe the medicines which they think most suitable for their patients.—(Lord Ennals.)

Lord Kilmarnock

My Lords, I think that this is the moment at which I should move the amendment standing in my name to the Motion moved by the noble Lord, Lord Ennals. I beg to move.

Moved, as an amendment to the above Motion, To leave out all the words after ("Government") and insert ("to implement these regulations without first giving the medical profession the opportunity to put into practice their own proposals for responsible prescribing for a trial period.").—(Lord Kilmarnock.)

The Deputy Speaker (Lord Nugent of Guildford)

My Lords, the original Question was that the Motion for a resolution in the terms set out on the Order Paper be agreed to, since when an amendment has been moved in the terms set out on the Order Paper. The Question is, That this amendment be agreed to?
