The Lord Chancellor moved Amendment No. 1: Page 19, line 15, at end insert—

("Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978

In paragraph 16(1) of Schedule 13 to the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978

  1. (a) for "Part II of the National Service Act 1948 (reinstatement in civil employment)" substitute "the Reserve Forces (Safeguard of Employment) Act 1985";
  2. (b) for "section 35(2)(b)" substitute "section 1(4)(b)".")

The noble and learned Lord said: I speak to both amendments standing in my name. Amendment No. 2: Schedule 5, Page 19, line 43, at end insert—

("1978 c. 44 Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978. In Schedule 13, paragraph 16(2).").

I hope I need only say a few words, but I am prepared for a longer version should the Committee wish. These drafting amendments follow consolidation practice as to references in other legislation. They have been approved by the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills. I beg to move.
