§ 3.25 p.m.
§ The Earl of SwintonMy Lords, at a convenient moment after 3.30 this afternoon my noble friend Lady Young will, with the leave of the House, repeat a Statement that is to be made in another place on UNESCO. It has been agreed through the usual channels that the Statement which is to be made in another place on the European Council Meeting in Luxembourg should, by leave of the House, be printed in the Official Report.
Your Lordships may also like to know that, subject to the progress of business, it is proposed that the House will rise for the Christmas Recess on Thursday 19th December and return on Tuesday 14th January. The House will sit at 11 a.m. on Thursday 19th December.
§ Baroness SeearMy Lords, before the noble Earl sits down, if the Statement on the European Council Meeting is not to be repeated here, can he say whether we shall have an opportunity to discuss it quite soon because many of us are deeply concerned at the outcome of that meeting?
§ The Earl of SwintonMy Lords, it is quite a usual step that Statements are printed in the Official Report when they are made in another place. I do not think that it is usual to have a debate on them subsequently. I believe that that is a matter for the usual channels.
