HL Deb 16 October 1984 vol 455 c967
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they expect to introduce for Northern Ireland legislation comparable to the Police and Criminal Evidence Bill now before Parliament.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Lyell)

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland continues to follow closely the passage of the Police and Criminal Evidence Bill now before Parliament and will wish to consider, in the light of the Bill's provisions when it is enacted, whether and how similar changes might be made in the ordinary criminal law or in the emergency powers available in Northern Ireland. It is not possible at this stage to give a commitment as to the timing of any such legislation.
