HL Deb 28 June 1984 vol 453 c1033
The Lord Chancellor (Lord Hailsham of Saint Marylebone)

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. I foreshadowed this amendment yesterday when I was dealing with the precedence in the judicial sittings of the House. The amendment is designed to ensure that the arrangements are the same for the Appellate and Appeal Committees respectively. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Standing Orders relating to Public Business be amended as follows:

Standing Order 82

Leave out paragraphs (4) and (5) and insert:— (4) In any Appellate or Appeal Committee the Chair shall be taken by the Lord Chancellor or, in his absence, by the senior Lord of Appeal in Ordinary present, such seniority being determined in accordance with the Commission for the time being appointing Speakers for the purpose of the hearing and determination of Appeals."—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
