§
1 Clause 1, page 2, line 28, at end insert—
("(bb) in the case of a transfer into the United Kingdom of the effect in relation to the prisoner of the law relating to his detention under that warrant (including the effect of any enactment or instrument under which he may be released earlier than provided for by the terms of the warrant);").
§ Lord EltonMy Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 1. When this Bill was last before your Lordships on 10th April, I confirmed an undertaking which I had given by letter to the noble Lord, Lord Mishcon, concerning information to be provided about the effect of a warrant referred to in paragraph (a) of Clause 1(4). I agreed to see whether a Government amendment could be introduced making it clear that in the case of a transfer to the United Kingdom information about the effect of a warrant would include information about the earliest date of release and about provisions governing remission and release on parole. Amendment No. 1 is intended to fulfil that undertaking, and I hope your Lordships will agree that it provides the clarification required. My Lords, I beg to move.
§ Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said amendment.—(Lord Elton.)
§ Lord MishconMy Lords, as one would have expected of the noble Lord the Minister, the undertaking has been faithfully fulfilled and, obviously, I am very gratified to see this amendment now before the House.
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
