HL Deb 16 July 1984 vol 454 c1322

Baroness Phillips asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many prosecutions for shoplifting have been prevented by diplomatic immunity.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Elton): In the period from 1st January 1974 to 31st May 1984 we received from the police 214 reports of incidents in which property was alleged to have been stolen from shops by persons who were immune from prosecution because of an entitlement to diplomatic immunity.
