§ The Earl of Caithness rose to move, That the draft order laid before the House on 24th May be approved.
§ The noble Earl said: My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Lady Trumpington I shall speak to this order, and I shall he brief. Most of your Lordships, if not all, will he familiar with this hardy annual which will not become a perennial. The Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments has considered the draft order and has made no comment. The purpose of the draft order is to extend the Pool Competitions Act 1971—
§ Baroness TrumpingtonMy Lords, I beg your Lordships' pardon. The purpose of the draft order is to extend the Pool Competitions Act 1971 for a further year. This Act came into force on 27th July 1971 and had effect for five years, but included a provision for its extension by order for up to a year at a time. It has been extended each year since 1976. Naturally, I am only too willing to answer any questions that your Lordships may put to me about it.
I ask the House to agree to the Motion before it. I beg to move.
