The Earl of Caithness rose to move, That the draft order laid before the House on 24th May be approved.

The noble Earl said: My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Lady Trumpington I shall speak to this order, and I shall he brief. Most of your Lordships, if not all, will he familiar with this hardy annual which will not become a perennial. The Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments has considered the draft order and has made no comment. The purpose of the draft order is to extend the Pool Competitions Act 1971

My Lords, I beg your Lordships' pardon. The purpose of the draft order is to extend the Pool Competitions Act 1971 for a further year. This Act came into force on 27th July 1971 and had effect for five years, but included a provision for its extension by order for up to a year at a time. It has been extended each year since 1976. Naturally, I am only too willing to answer any questions that your Lordships may put to me about it.

I ask the House to agree to the Motion before it. I beg to move.
