HL Deb 12 May 1983 vol 442 c550
The Lord Chancellor (Lord Hailsham of Saint Marylebone)

My Lords, it is my duty to notify your Lordships that I have appointed Mr. Michael Addison John Wheeler-Booth as Reading Clerk to take effect from the date when Sir Peter Henderson resigns at the beginning of the Summer Recess in the first Session of the next Parliament, subject to the approval of the House. A Motion for the approval of this appointment will be tabled for consideration nearer that date.

Lord Cledwyn of Penrhos

My Lords, I am grateful to the Leader of the House and the Lord Chancellor for making those announcements. I note that there will be another opportunity to express our appreciation of Sir Peter Henderson's services to the House. Therefore, at this stage I shall simply say that I look forward to being able to pay tribute to Sir Peter on that occasion. I am grateful for the extensive consultations, over which I know the Leader of the House has taken a great deal of care and trouble. I can confirm—and I know that in saying this I can speak for representatives of all parts of the House—that the outcome of these consultations has been unanimous.
