HL Deb 26 April 1983 vol 441 c799
Lord Balfour of Inchrye

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the first Question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what success has been achieved in the investigations into the responsibility for recent leakages to the press of confidential Government papers.

The Lord Privy Seal (Baroness Young)

My Lords, it would not be in the public interest to disclose details of inquiries into the unauthorised disclosure of information or the degree of success which these have achieved.

Lord Balfour of Inchrye

My Lords, can the Minister kindly say what success has been achieved in the case of the last two examples, one of which was rebuked by the head of the Treasury and the other was rebuked by the Prime Minister, who said that it was deplorable?

Baroness Young

My Lords, I cannot add anything to what I have said in my original Answer, and I do not believe that it would be right for me to add any further comment on leak inquiries.
