§ Lord DenhamMy Lords, before the next business is called I should like, with the leave of the House, to make a short business statement. Your Lordships may recall that last Thursday some doubt was expressed on the Floor of the House as to whether the short debate rules would allow enough time for tomorrow's important debate on cable expansion, standing in the name of my noble friend Lord Orr-Ewing. After discussions with the usual channels it has been agreed that, in view of the number of speakers, my noble friend's debate should not have the short debate time limit imposed upon it. My noble friend Lord Rochdale has in turn been kind enough to agree that his own debate on young people in industry which follows it should now take place on an Unstarred Question and not on a Motion. These changes will be reflected in tomorrow's Order Paper. My noble friend the Leader of the House will table a Business of the House Motion to this effect. However, I thought it right to take the first opportunity to inform the House of this change in tomorrow's business.
§ Lord Ponsonby of ShulbredeMy Lords, may I thank the noble Lord for making that business statement and for acquainting the House with the changed arrangements for tomorrow. I am quite sure 776 that it was right to enable there to be sufficient time to debate this very important Motion standing in the name of the noble Lord, Lord Orr-Ewing.
