HL Deb 27 October 1981 vol 424 c935

7 Clause 22, page 30, line 16, at end insert ("where they appear at the end of the name").

8 Clause 22, page 30, line 18, after second ("letters") insert ("accents").

Lord Lyell

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 7 and 8. These two amendments are minor drafting amendments. Clause 22(3) specifies items to be disregarded for the purpose of determining whether or not a new company name is the same as a name which is already on the index. Amendment No. 7 requires the Secretary of State to disregard not only the words and expressions specified in Clause 22(3)(b), but also the abbreviations of the expressions which appear in paragraph (b). Amendment No. 8 requires accents also to be disregarded, together with punctuation marks and other such distinguishing marks which are already specified in Clause 22(3)(d). This takes account particularly of the number of companies which are now being registered in Great Britain with what we call foreign names.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said amendments.—(Lord Lyell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
