HL Deb 17 March 1981 vol 418 c662
The Chairman of Committees (Lord Aberdare)

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a second time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a—(Lord Aberdare.)

Lord Mottistone

My Lords, in Part IV-A of the British Railways Bill there is reference to Fishbourne, in the Isle of Wight. There is concern in the Isle of Wight about some of the proposals that British Rail have, and I understand that there may indeed be a petition in this area. I trust that if, in that case, this Bill is referred to a Select Committee, they will take exceptional care to see that a reasonable and fair solution is reached in relation to Part IV-A of this Bill.

Lord Aberdare

My Lords, as the noble Lord says, there is indeed in the Bill reference to works in the Isle of Wight, and specifically in the Borough of Medina. The Borough of Medina have petitioned against this particular provision, and unless that petition is withdrawn it will, as usual, go to a Select Committee.

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Select Committee.
