HL Deb 12 February 1981 vol 417 cc282-3
The Chairman of Committees (Lord Aberdare)

My Lords, I beg to move that the Second Report from the Select Committee be agreed to.

Moved, That the Second Report from the Select Committee be agreed to.—(Lord Aberdare.)

The Report read as follows:

1. PARLIAMENT OFFICE: SELECT COMMITTEE ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Committee have considered the staffing of the Select Committee on Science and Technology. The Committee recommend that there should be no immediate successor to the Select Committee on Unemployment and that, when it has reported, the clerk to that Committee should be assigned as a second clerk to the Select Committee on Science and Technology. In the event of an urgent requirement for a clerk to service an unexpected select committee, such a clerk should be drawn from either the European Communities Committee or the Science and Technology Committee.

2. REFRESHMENT DEPARTMENT

The Committee were informed that the Treasury had agreed to new financial assistance for the Refreshment Department and that the Civil Service Catering Organisation was conducting a review of the workings of the Department. The Committee welcomed the new financial support for the Department.

3. HOUSE OF LORDS BULLETIN

The Committee agreed a recommendation by the Administration Sub-Committee that the House of Lords should no longer publish a Weekly Information Bulletin when current Stationery Office contracts expire later this year.

4. TELEVISION DOCUMENTARY FILMS ON THE HOUSE OF LORDS

The Committee have considered a request from the BBC to produce four short documentary films on the House of Lords. They agreed this request in principle, subject to detailed consideration being given to it by the Administration Sub-committee who would have to agree appropriate conditions with the BBC. The Committee agreed, however, that no filming should be allowed in the Chamber when the House is sitting, nor in a Committee Room when a Committee is sitting.

5. PICTURE OF THE HOUSE IN SESSION

The Committee agreed in principle that it would be desirable to commission a further picture of the House in session. The Works of Art Sub-Committee were invited to consider the names of possible artists to undertake this commission.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
