Lord HOUGHTON of SOWERBY asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether experiments on crab-eating Macacques to ascertain whether these animals could survive an English winter which resulted in 22 out of the 26 animals freezing to death (Primate Supply 4 No. 2, pp. 25/26) was an experiment approved by the Home Secretary and licensed under the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876.
