HL Deb 13 March 1980 vol 406 c1290

7.26 p.m.

Lord ELTON

My Lords, this order consolidates the law relating to county courts. It does not make any changes of substance in the existing law but it brings it together in one order.

Moved, That the draft order laid before the House on 26th February, be approved. —(Lord Elton.)

Lord BLEASE

My Lords, this is a consolidating measure. I think it is appropriate that I should mention that there has been a tremendous improvement in the general court procedures in Northern Ireland. This has generally helped in the smoother and more efficient running of the courts, and I have pleasure in supporting the order.

Lord ELTON

My Lords, I am grateful to the noble Lord for his observations. This is a useful contribution in improving the atmosphere of the Province as a whole, and I am grateful to the noble Lord for bringing it to our attention.

Viscount LONG

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do now adjourn during pleasure until 8 p.m.

[The Sitting was suspended from 7.28 p.m. until 8 p.m.]
