HL Deb 20 November 1979 vol 403 cc7-8

3 p.m.

Lord HATCH of LUSBY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they intend to pursue further inquiries arising out of the Bingham Report.

Lord TREFGARNE

My Lords, as I told the noble Lord on the 21st June, the issues involved are complex and I am afraid I have nothing to add to the Answer which I then gave him.

Lord HATCH of LUSBY

My Lords, as the noble Lord has already referred to the fact that he answered this Question on 21st June, does he recall that he said in that Answer that the Government would make a Statement? When can we expect that Statement to be made?

Lord TREFGARNE

My Lords, the matter is now in the hands of the Director of Public Prosecutions and we have to await his report before we can give an answer.

Lord PAGET of NORTHAMPTON

My Lords, have not the Government something better to do than to pursue these obsolete red herrings?
