HL Deb 26 July 1979 vol 401 cc2044-5

3.25 p.m.

Lord SWINFEN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what action they are taking to increase the supply of short-term rented accommodation for those shortly taking up jobs for the first time.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Lord Bellwin)

My Lords, the forthcoming Housing Bill will include measures to allow shorthold lettings in the private rented sector, and will give public sector tenants the right to take in lodgers or sub-let part of their homes. These measures should help to meet the need for such accommodation, including that of the category of people to which the Question refers.

Lord SW1N FEN

My Lords, while thanking my noble friend for his reply, may I ask whether he can say when it is proposed to bring forward this legislation?

Lord BELLWIN

My Lords, we hope to introduce the Housing Bill in the autumn.
