§ The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Belstead)My Lords, with your Lordships' permission I should like to make a Personal Statement. On 18th July, in the exchanges which followed the Question by my noble friend Lord Donegall about the Equal Opportunities Commission, I told your Lordships that the Commission had a total staff of 171. I regret that in saying that I misled your Lordships. I find on further inquiry that, while the commission has an authorised complement of 171, the number of staff currently employed by the commission is 147. I should like to apologise to your Lordships, and in particular to the noble Lord, Lord Hatch of Lusby, who asked about the commission's staff.
