HL Deb 12 February 1979 vol 398 cc987-8

3.25p.m.

Read 3a, with the Amendments.

Clause 13 [Tolls]:

Lord ABERDARE moved Amendment No.1:

Page 6, line 16, leave out from ("the") to ("and") in line 19 and insert— ("Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Tolls (Revision of Charges) Order 1971, subject to any further orders made under section 6 of the Transport Charges, amp:c. (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1954,").

The noble Lord said: My Lords, I apologise to the House for having produced these two Amendments to this Bill at this late stage, but I do so at the request of the promoters and they seem to me to be thoroughly good Amendments to which I think your Lordships will agree. They are in fact the same Amendment which has to be made twice, once to the Bill itself and once to the reproduced parent Act—that is, the Tamar Bridge Act 1957—which is reprinted as a Schedule to this Bill as amended by the Bill, so that this Amendment will have to be made in that Schedule as well. The object is simply to clarify the wording of Clause 13 in two respects: by defining clearly the order of 1971 which fixes the maximum tolls and, secondly, by defining exactly the Act under which these maximum tolls may be increased by the Secretary of State. I beg to move.

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

In the Schedule:

Lord ABERDARE moved Amendment No.2:

Page 27, line 2, leave out from ("the") to ("and") in line 4 and insert— ("Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Tolls (Revision of Charges) Order 1971, subject to any further orders made under section 6 of the Transport Charges, amp;c. (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1954,").

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

On Question, Bill passed, and returned to the Commons.
