HL Deb 25 November 1976 vol 378 cc24-5
The LORD PRIVY SEAL (Lord Peart)

My Lords, I beg to move the first Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. The House will have seen the Special Report from the Select Committee published last week. The Committee, who were appointed on 13th January, have been very active; they have held 30 meetings and taken evidence at 24 of them. As was foreshadowed from the beginning, their task has been too great to be completed in one Session. I understand that, if reappointed in the present Session, they aim to complete the taking of evidence by the end of the year and report in the early months of 1977. I beg to move.

Moved, That a Select Committee be appointed to investigate the problem of instability in prices of primary essential commodities; to scrutinise proposals designed to rectify wide price movements in these commodities; and to report on the likely effectiveness of these proposals in reducing the substantial price fluctuations which have occurred in recent years. —(Lord Peart.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
