The LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 90, and it may be convenient to consider Amendments Nos. 91 to 94. The effect of Amendment No. 90 is to remove from the Welsh Development Agency the duty to employ those staff of the Council for Small Industries in Rural Areas employed by the Council on work wholly or mainly in Wales, who request the Agency who employ them when COSIRA withdraws from Wales concurrently with the Board's vesting day. The other Amendments, Nos. 91 to 94, are consequential and relate the provisions of the Schedule to any person who transfers from the employment of the Council to that of the Agency. I ought to give the assurance however that although these Amendments remove the statutory duty on the Agency to employ COSIRA staff whose work relates wholly or mainly to the Council's activities in Wales, the Agency have indicated that they: welcome the fact that on Vesting Day the COSIRA staff employed wholly or mainly in Wales will transfer, together with their work, to the Agency. This has been explained to the staff concerned and they are quite happy about it.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amend ments.—(The Lord Chancellor).
